Friday, July 14, 2023, 7 p.m., Glastrakt of the WKV
With: Kai Krämer, Jasmin Schädler, Laura Van Severen, Vicente Vázquez, Iris Dressler and others
Language: English

The exchange scholarship between Baden-Württemberg and Catalonia, established on the initiative of the Goethe-Institut Barcelona, the Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg, the Württembergischer Kunstverein and the Hangar Art Centre, Barcelona, is funded by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts and the Catalan regional government. Baden-Württemberg and Catalonia have maintained close ties for over 30 years through the "Four Motors for Europe", a consortium between Baden-Württemberg, Catalonia, the Italian region of Lombardy and the French region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
A total of four artists are given the opportunity to explore the respective other art field and devote themselves to the creation of a site-specific work for two months. The artist exchange serves the dialogue between Catalan and Baden-Württemberg artists and enables them to expand their international networks. Hangar, the Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg, and the Württembergischer Kunstverein provide studio spaces and accommodation for the participating visiting artists for the duration of their residencies.

In 2023 the artist exchange between Baden-Württemberg and Catalonia takes place for the ninth time. The artists Laura Van Severen and Vicente Vazquez Peleteiro have been selected from Catalonia. Both are living and working in Stuttgart in June and July of this year and will subsequently present their work at the Württembergischer Kunstverein. In turn, the Baden-Württemberg artists Kai Krämer and Jasmin Schädler will live and work in Barcelona in September and October of this year.

The event on July 14 will provide general information about this scholarship and introduce this year's scholarship holders.

Kai Krämer:
Kais practice forms around writing and moving. In learning with the body – its intimacy, failure, beauty, its dreaming & dancing – they try to develop language(s) that are resistant but empathetic; alive and tangible to the tensions of the (planetary and situated) situationship. They use methods of theory, (auto)fiction or performance while not submitting to specific disciplinary lines.

Jasmin Schädler:
Under the working title “Modes of Truth” the Stuttgart based media and performance artist Jasmin Schädler will build a polygraph, also known as lie detector, as a medium to investigate the concept of truth. She will look into the histories of truth in relationship to technology as well as the social significance and performativity of truth.

Laura Van Severen:
Sound is an energy that vibrates through substances and can therefore be the driver or result of movement, action or change. Photographer Laura Van Severen will share some first steps of her long-term research project “A Distant Touch” for which she revisits historical and current events through sound.

Vicente Vázquez:
In conversation with his friends Alejandro Valbuena, artist and set painter for theater, opera - film and Katharina Hetzeneder designer and anthropologist he will talk about “Behind the Scenes - werk 1” – the first phase of a long-term project about the sports and premium car manufacturer Porsche.
